Saturday, July 19th, 2008

Gretchen PriestWe won’t be just blending genres; we’ll be obliterating them, when Gretchen Priest and PlaidGrass join us live with a spellbinding set of Celtic and old-time flavored instrumentals powered by a definitely bluegrassy sensibility. Coming up July 26, 2008: “June And July, 1968”

We’ll be taking a walk down memory lane to that bluegrassically resplendent summer of 1968 when, among other things:

17 year old Dave Evans joins Earl Taylor and the Stoney Mountain Boys; Ronnie Reno leaves Reno & Harrell to join the Osborne Brothers; Pop Stoneman dies at the age of 75; Tut Taylor posts an ad in Bluegrass Unlimited magazine, selling a 1923 Lloyd Loar Gibson F-5 mandolin for $2,000.00; Billboard Magazine runs a report on the new phenomenon of the cassette in America; and Del McCoury, Emerson & Waldron, Ralph Stanley, Reno & Harrell and Bill Monroe rule Bluegrass AM airwaves … hard.

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Waylon & Willie Album 1978For almost 50 years, Charlie Waller and the Country Gentlemen delighted, confounded, pioneered, explored, standardized, pushed, prodded and generally made the bluegrass world a better place. With Charlie’s son, Randy, now at the helm, they’re still going strong. We’ll be celebrating this revered institution when Randy and boys join us for a special live segment. - More information on Randy Waller & the Country Gentlemen can be found at www.randywaller.com
